Making the weather more accessible

Charity Work

Cancer has been in my life a number of times unfortunately. Sadly my Grandma and Grandpa both died from it and it has also influenced my Dad and a close friend of mine Rachel, who has battled 3 tumors already and she’s only 34!

For this reason when I have time I organise or attend charity events to help others affected by this horrible disease. Here are a couple of example of what I’ve done in the past.

Hilary runs the London Marathon – April 2015

My youngest sister, Hilary, is running the London marathon in April 2015 for Worldwide Cancer Research. As I have spent the year recovering from my operation in February, I have been running charity events at work to help boost Hilary’s fund.

In August I ran a charity rounders match after work in St. James’ Park and raised £58.83 for Hilary’s marathon fund.

In September I organised a charity bake sale in the office. Hilary and I stayed up the night before making more than 80 cakes, and some of my colleagues made some and added them to the collection. We raised £175.03!

Day 22

Hilary is still in training for the London marathon. You can watch her training vlogs on her YouTube channel. If you have any spare pennies please sponsor her!

My Ice bucket challenge – August 2014

In the summer of 2014, the ice bucket challenge went viral to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. I got nominated by friends Cassie, Chris and Olivia. Here’s my video and donation!

Alice’s bike ride from London to Paris – September 2014

Unfortunately I had an operation on my hip in February and therefore will be unable to partake in any physical activity to raise money for charity in 2014. However, my crazy sister, Alice, cycled from London to Paris in September to raise money for the charity Mind. She raised £1735.27 and her work doubled the first £1000. If you can spare a few pennies please sponsor her!!

Community Classrooms – April 2014

In February 2014, I had an operation on my hip. Whilst I was recovering I helped my friend Sam, by building a website for her charity, Community Classrooms for free.

Sober for October – October 2013

In October I gave up alcohol to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support! This was a real challenge for me as I love a nice glass of wine or one or two cocktails! I didn’t raise much but felt a lot healthier for it!

The Color Run – September 2013

I organised a group of my friends to do the Brighton Color Run in August. The Color Run involves walking/dancing/running 5km whilst paint is thrown at you and even though my hip isn’t great, I managed to walk the full 5km. The event is run by Dulux and Channel 4 to raise money for Stand Up to Cancer, in association with Cancer Research.

We managed to raise over £600 for Stand Up to Cancer and here are a few photos:

Macmillan Night-In – April 2013

In April I organised a Macmillan Night-In at work to raise money for We are Macmillan Cancer Support. I the company to donate some money towards food and drink and asked people to bring something too. I put together a range of kids games such as Twister and bowling. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and we raised a total of £286.50 for the Macmillan Cancer Support.

Marie Curie Swimathon – April 2013

In April 2103, I took on a difficult challenge for myself and completed the Marie Curie Swimathon. With my hip, it’s difficult to push myself too much, but I signed myself up to swim 1.5km and I did it.

I raised £350 for Marie Curie and managed to swim the full 1.5km in 46 minutes! Here’s a few photos courtesy of my Mum 🙂
